Renovation Progress

JULY 2010

This portion of the basement will be the Billiard Room in the hotel. Notice the hole in the wall that was the original light well space. The light wells will be restored to the front of the hotel.

JUNE 2010

Concrete is poured into new footings on the north east corner of the bank building.


Installing plumbing in the west bay of the hotel. This area will serve as a restaurant once the hotel is open.



MAY 2010

New support beams are installed in what will be one of the hotel suites.


Renovation in the east bay of the hotel continues. This area will have office space and storage, as well as the corridor connecting the hotel and the bank building.


Workers move support scaffolding and beams into place as work begins on foundation stabilization of the City National Bank building. This work will need to be completed before the non-original second floor is removed.



April 2010

Excavation work has begun in front of the original City National Bank building in preparation for lowering the original first floor and removing the second floor.



Framing of hotel suites has begun on the third floor of the hotel.

March 2010

A design feature between bricks peculiar to Frank Lloyd Wright and used on at least two other buildings designed by the architect. This was discovered on the columns in the bank building long covered over by wall board.










Second floor of the bank building with all walls removed. This floor will be taken out, windows moved up and replaced with clerestory windows and bronze grates.










Original law office area with the wall between the bank and law office removed. Something not seen since about 1926.



Original bathroom tiles and wood trim salvaged and to be used in the restoration of the hotel.



February 2010

Rubber matting and plywood are laid down to cover the original tile floor in the lobby of the hotel. The tile floor will be one of the last pieces restored during construction.







 

Doors and windows original to the hotel are lined up and awaiting to be picked up by the restoration contractor.

Members of the Wright on the Park Board signed construction contracts on January 15, 2010 for the renovation and rehabilitation of The Historic Park Inn Hotel.



September 2009


John Rigler, board chair for Iowa Community Development LC, Ann MacGregor, Executive Director of WOTP and Dan Robeson, President of IBG at the press conference announcing the awarding of New Markets Tax Credits to Wright on the Park.

Wright on the Park has received the final portion of construction financing from New Markets Tax Credits distributed by Iowa Community Development LC. The announcement came at a press conference on  Thursday, September 24 at The Historic Park Inn Hotel in Mason City.

The New Markets Tax Credit program is intended to bring capital to communities and supports activities in eligible communities to help reverse negative economic trends and encourage local investment.

Construction is now moving forward, with bids let on September 18 and bid opening on October 13.


Contractors from several states gathered at The Historic Park Inn Hotel on September 18 for a pre-construction meeting as bids were let on the hotel/bank project.

May 2009
Demolition work to the ceiling of the City National Bank building uncovered the original skylight in what was the board room of the bank, on the
south side of the building. The original art glass for the skylight has
been found and restored.

April 2009
Dave Randall, from Randall Construction Co. works on replacing stone on
the Ladies Parlor Balcony.

in the City National Bank building.



















March 2009

Demolition begins in the first floor area of the City National Bank building. The drop-ceiling will be removed and some of the non-original columns taken out.
















Crews continue to work on demolition in the Park Inn Hotel. Workers clear debris from ceiling demolition in the west bay area which will be turned into a restaurant for the hotel.

















November 2008
Restoration work begins on the Ladies Parlor balcony. Metal flashing will be  replaced with appropriate stone work.



Art glass for the Park Inn Hotel lobby is undergoing restoration this winter.




September 2008
Demolition continues in the east bay of the Park Inn Hotel.




January 2008
The mezzanine balcony is installed in the lobby of the Park Inn Hotel.
